Yoga and its breathing techniques were the inspiration behind Dr. Weil’s “The 4-7-8 breathing exercise. He says that the trick is simple and easily completed anywhere. It also doesn’t take long and needs no equipment. Here’s the trick:


Exhale through your mouth doing a whoosh sound. Close your mouth and inhale slowly while counting to four. Hold your breath counting to seven, then exhale slowly making a whoosh sound and counting to eight.

This technique will lower the heart pulse and calm your mind. Dr. Weil says that you need to keep focus on the correct ratio and inhaling or exhaling deeply every time.

It may sound too easy to work, but you shouldn’t judge it before you try.
