Morning Elixir – Warm Water With Lemon And Turmeric For Health Maintenance And Prevention Of Diseases
“When I was a child, every time I had a cold my mother prepared me a cup of hot milk with turmeric. The turmeric would warm my throat and strengthen my body, and I wished I could drink this elixir every day during winter. Now when turmeric’s effects are known, why don’t I add it to my drinks every day?” Tejal Patel wonders.
I’m a vegan now, so I don’t like the option of milk with turmeric. Turmeric in hot water has the same effect and is now the main part of my morning routine. Turmeric is a yellow spice from India and part of the ginger family. Ayurveda medicine recognizes it as a potent antioxidant that fights carcinogenic free radicals and has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties as well. It is commonly used in Indian cuisine, but if you’re not in touch with it, there are ways to include this healthy spice in your diet. It’s easy: just add some lemon juice in a glass of warm water and spice it up with turmeric. You may add some cinnamon too which will normalize your blood sugar levels and has anti-inflammatory properties as well. Here’s the recipe:
Morning elixir – warm water with lemon and turmeric
– one cup of warm water or a cup of warm milk
– quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric
– juice from half a lemon
– a pinch of cinnamon (not mandatory)
– 1/8 teaspoon of honey
– one teaspoon of coconut oil
Heat the water and add the turmeric, lemon juice, honey and coconut oil. Mix it well. The turmeric will fall on the bottom, so continue mixing as you drink it to get the benefits of turmeric. Drink the mix while it’s hot.
