Imbalances In The Hormones: Symptoms, Cause And Solutions!!!
There are some moments when we just feel angry, frustrated and emotional for no reason. Usually we blame the hormones. And we are right. We know it`s not an excuse we know that those symptoms are real. Being a woman is hard especially if the hormones are involved. They are important for the health. If hormones change than they impact on the mood, sexual desire, fertility and ovulation.
Causes for hormonal imbalance
These imbalances appear commonly. They can change the body`s natural chemistry and can affect your daily routines. Common culprits are during menopause, pregnancy, menstrual cycle, use of contraceptive pill, lifestyle factors like inconsistent sleep patterns, stress, poor diet and lack of exercise. The hormone imbalance can cause thyroid issues or diabetes.
Signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance
Before their period usually women find it hard to fall asleep. This is caused because of the hormone progesterone just before menstruation. The level of progesterone drops after giving birth, and it is not because of the baby that you are not getting enough sleep. This hormone progesterone has relaxing properties, so if it drops than you might feel restless because of the sleep disorder.
Usually acne appears during menstrual period. But if you have deep, cystic acne all the time, then that might be androgens (male hormones like testosterone) are the culprit. This hormone testosterone stimulates excess production of sebum, trapping underneath the skin, merging with acne-causing bacteria and dead skin cells. This then leads to clogged pores, pimples and blemishes. If the testosterone level is high, then the breakout is higher. There are remedies that can help easier cases of acne.
If you started to forget some things like meeting a friend, or where you put your purse, then this could be due to a hormonal issue. When the stress level is getting high, then your body produces high level of the stress hormone cortisol. Researchers have shown that this hormone can hamper your learning ability and memory.
If you eat constantly and can`t keep your hands out of the fridge, then you can blame it on the hormones. It is important to eat healthy and exercise, but sometimes the hunger is about the hormones.
There was a study made where volunteers who were deprived of sleep felt extreme hunger, opposite of those who had normal sleep. The level of leptin hormone plummeted to those who were sleep deprived. There is a hormone ghrelin that stimulates appetite, and the hormones leptin and oxyntomodulin suppress the hunger. So this is the reason why people who are chronically sleep-deprived are usually overweight than those who get more sleep.
Different people react differently under stress. Some have headaches, some just feel cranky and some just want to curl up on the sofa and have a box of chocolates. Some people have stress reflecting in their stomach. Early in the morning the production of cortisol is very high.
When being overstressed the adrenalin overproduces cortisol and now the process is reversed the cortisol in the morning is very low instead of being high. If you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) than that is due to the abnormal levels of serotonin. Usually 90% are women who suffer, especially those whose IBS symptoms are going up around the period of menstruation. The level of estrogen and progesterone have high role in the stress.
Sometimes we all need nap and extra rest. But if this necessity for nap and feeling exhausted every day continues, then that might mean you are suffering from a lack of a thyroid hormone, called hypothyroidsm. If you have added 10-20 pounds to your weight and you cant lose it, then you just might have this condition. When the hormone levels go down, the thyroid hormones that control the body`s metabolism slow down, and the heart rate slows down, the mental functioning and the digestion as well.
There is the hypothyroids that can make you exhausted, mentally foggy, constipates. But don’t worry, a lot of people suffer from it, like over 15 million adults nationwide.
Mood Swings and Depression
Due to the hormone imbalance while menopause women feel anxious and experience mood swings.
Woman that gain too much weight believe is due to the age. But sometimes the weight gain could be associated to your adrenal system becoming fatigue and signaling the thyroid that there is a problem. Then the system slows down the metabolism.
Now the pancreas responds by a need to conserve fat and concentrate on storing fat in the mid-section, on the back and on the other parts of the body.
Headaches and Migraines
Usually women fight headaches and migraines when entering in the middle age. This happens because of the hormonal imbalances during the menstrual cycle. Usually a diary helps when these episodes occur because you can write down how often they happen and what actually triggers them.
Hot Flashes and Night sweats
The hormonal imbalance can make you experience “tropical moments”. Before people thought that this happens because the level of estrogen is low. But now we know that this is because of high level of estrogen and low level of progesterone, and other hormones imbalance as well like adrenals, ovaries, thyroid, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract. When women go through midlife changes their system starts to imbalance and are prone to hormonal imbalances.
The estrogen levels change during menopause and it also happens to the vaginal wall. This brings vaginal dryness making sex uncomfortable. You can use lubricants or intra-vaginal low-dose estrogen and testosterone cream, but make sure you consult your doctor first.
It is very important to have annual exams and screening mammograms for your breasts. Especially if you are an elder woman. The high level of estrogen can make the breasts feel tender and sore, leading to lumps, fibroids and cysts. This is because the hormonal imbalances that happen to woman with the age. But there are remedies that can help with this issue. Usually the doctor can prescribe you a treatment that you can apply locally like vaginal cream, or you can have tablet, patch or gel form. There is a herb in the Chinese medicine that has been to used to improve the libido.
