Terrible-Pain-In-Your-Joints

Both men and women experience different types of joint and muscle pain due to the fact that they have different habits and of course, physiology.

According to a recent research, 87% of women experience joint pain due to their uncomfortable shoes with high heels. Another study suggested that women experience neck pain more frequently than men – the same can be said about osteoarthritis and bunions. It’s not easy to determine what is the reason behind this, although experts are suggesting that it probably has something to do with female pain sensitivity. However, women often ignore their pain due to them being overwhelmed with work and caring for their children and household.

Luckily, there are many alternative solutions to painkillers such as acupuncture, t’ai chi, dumbbell exercises or tension release. Here are some of the most effective ways that should help you relieve the pain you’re experiencing:

Problem

Knee problems are most often caused by pregnancy, shoes, motherhood or anatomy. Experiencing frequent knee pain in the 30s and 40s will result in arthritis later in your life. When pregnant, women have increased weight which puts a lot of pressure on their knees, and after they give birth, they lift the baby repeatedly, putting a lot of pressure on the whole body. When they wear high heels, they put about 30% more pressure on their knees, which eventually leads to osteoarthritis. Female athletes are more prone to ligament damage ACL tear, since the angle that the thigh bone forms with the lower leg bone is greater in females than males. This causes the quadriceps to pull on the kneecap, so women have more wear and tear on their lower body joints.

Solution

According to a study, the efficiency of glucosamine supplements and chondroitin is not constant. Some people resolve their problems with these substances, but others have reported great success using 300 mg. of avocado soybean unsaponifiables. This remedy is available in pill and gel form and it reduces the stiffness and pain in knee and hip osteoarthritis. According to studies, you can reduce knee pain by losing weight, doing exercises and t’ai chi a couple of times a week.

Feet

Problem

Wearing high heels is wrong – when you wear them, you are essentially walking on your toes which causes twisting in the knee. This leads to tenderness under the ball of the foot which is a condition known as metatarsalgia. Women also suffer from a condition known as Morton’s neuroma which is caused by thickened tissue around the nerve between the 3rd and 4th toe. Plantar fasciitis is another painful condition which is caused by inflammation and irritation of the arch and the heel and it mostly affects women.

About half of the women in the USA have abnormal bone growth at their big toe base caused by the narrow toe boxes of female shoes, and even the shoes with stable heels are not adequate for the form of your feet.

Solution

You need to wear flexible shoes that move with your steps, but this shoes are difficult to find. In order to avoid the aforementioned conditions, you should wear low heels only when you must. The heels should not surpass 2 cm. in height, and women are supposed to wear metatarsal pads under the ball of the foot to avoid pressure. To prevent bunions, avoid wearing tight shoes. To treat and prevent plantar fasciitis you can try physical therapy or cortisone injections, although many experts say that stretching, heat and massage therapies are more effective.

Hips

Problem

Statistical data shows that women are more affected by trochanteric syndrome than men. This syndrome causes tenderness and pain at the top of the thigh where the high bone meets the hip. The notion that it affects women more than men may lie in the fact that women have wider pelvises which change the angle of the fibrous tissue that connects the hip muscle to the outer knee. The weakness of the muscles that attach to the other hips may be another factor for the condition. Hormones may influence the hips too, and excessive running may also be the culprit.

Weaker hip muscles can also cause patellofemoral pain in women.

Solution

The gluteal muscles are responsible for keeping the pelvis from rotating and flexing too much. Weak buttocks can cause knee pain and leg injuries, so you need to do squats, arm and leg raises and lunges every day. Stretch the IT band by standing up, crossing your left foot over the right, raising the right arm and leaning to the left. Perform the exercise slowly for best results.

Back

Problem

Back pain affects 85% of the American population, and is one of the main reasons why people visit complementary medicine practitioners. Lower back pain is more common in women than men, which is confusing for scientist as women lead a healthier lifestyle in general. The reason might be pregnancy and lifting their children after birth.

Solution

Back pain can be relieved by a remedy made of 240 mg. of willow bark extract rich in salicin and 50 gr. of devil’s claw extract. Acupuncture is also effective, even more than physical therapy according to studies. The Alexander Technique is another solution for back pain. This technique teaches tension release and better posture, and according to research, it works even better than massages. Most people don’t pay attention at how they lift things or clench their jaw, and this technique will show you how to do your daily activities properly.

Shoulders and neck

Problem

According to studies, women experience neck pain three times more than men, and two thirds of women with neck pain also suffer from tension and pain in the large muscle that goes through the neck, shoulder and upper back. Sitting for hours, carrying heavy bags and stress can all cause neck pain, and the shrugging you repeat to keep a heavy bag from falling off your arm when wearing it only worsens the condition.

When we sit for a long time, our backs are often bent, so we extend the neck forward which causes stiffness and pain. Furthermore, people with weak circulation in their neck and shoulder muscles suffer from back and shoulder pain more frequently than others. If you experience shoulder pain while using a mouse on your PC, it is caused by a condition called shoulder mouse.

Solution

Shoulder and neck pain can thankfully be relieved by exercising at least 3 times a week. In order to improve your neck flexibility, you can start doing simple neck exercises by looking up and down and to the sides while touching your ears to your shoulders. You can also do some neck strengthening exercises.

In order to relieve neck pain, you can try the following dumbbell exercises: upright row, reverse fly, shoulder elevation, shoulder abduction and row exercise. Drinking tea from certain herbs with powerful anti-inflammatory properties such as arnica, Echinacea and chamomile are also recommended. The shoulder mouse condition can be relieved by placing your forearm on the desk, and in order to relieve shoulder pain, you mustn’t carry heavy things in your purse or bag.
