- Ginger Candy
It has been used in South India. The name there is Inji Murabba which means – sweet jam pickle. My mother used to make candy out of it for us and she always had one in her bag. This has helped me several times to get rid of travel sickness.
It can also help with sore throat, nausea, cold, digestion, giddiness, sinus problem, and for morning sickness during the first trimester.
You can consume one candy a day. DON`T CONSUME like a regular candy it is not good to eat too many of this type of candy.
Here is a recipe that you can use to make your own candy and get rid of these illnesses.
Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies
- 100 g Fresh young ginger
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- ¼ cup of water
- 2 tablespoons flour
- A pinch of cardamom powder
- Butter spray
- Cookie sheet
- Bread mold
- 20 pieces yield
Step 2: Grate ginger and Prepare mold
Peel the skin out of the ginger and wash it thoroughly with a running water. Dry it with a paper towel. After this you need to grate the ginger.
You can place a cookie sheet on mold and grease it with butter or ghee.
It is better to use a big piece of ginger, it is easily grated. If by any chance you have a small ginger piece you can use a fork to pinch in it and grate it easily by moving the fork up and down with the ginger.
Preparation of the candy:
You need to heat a pan on a medium heat, add sugar, cardamom powder and water in it.
Step 3: Ginger Candy preparation
Melt the sugar by mixing constantly for few minutes. After it starts to bubble you need to check for the sugar syrup if it is consistent.
The proper way to check for consistency is to take some water in a bowl or plate, pour some of the sugar syrup in it. It shouldn’t dissolve in water. If it is dissolving it means it just needs few more minutes to bubble.
Add the grated ginger in the sugar syrup and stir occasionally.
After few minutes you can add the flour and continue stirring.
Step 4: Pour into mold and its ready!!
Pour the syrup in the mold while it is still hot and leave it to cool down.
You now can cut in 1×1 cm square shape candy and leave it to turn hard.
You can store the candies in an air tight container and have one a day.
