Hyperpigmentation is a skin disorder which causes dark spots to appear on the skin and is caused by an increased melanin production. This problem can be caused by sun exposure, diseases, aging, pregnancy, trauma, etc.

There are external and internal factors which can cause the condition. External factors are sun or chemical exposure, while internal factors are can be inherited. People with darker skin are more prone to hyperpigmentation.

The condition causes specks, age-spots and stains on the skin, usually focused on the face and hands. The same spots can also appear due to surgery, or during pregnancy. The dark spots are gone when the pregnancy is over.

In order to get rid of the discoloration, you can try the following natural remedy:

Ingredients

A teaspoon of turmeric

A teaspoon of lemon juice

Preparation

Mix both ingredients well, then apply the paste on the affected area and leave it for 15 minutes. In the end, wash with cold water, but remember to never expose your skin to direct sunlight after the treatment. Try to perform the treatment before a shower. Repeat it once or twice a day until you notice improvements.

This remedy has its roots in the Ayurveda medicine, where it has been used for a long time. Lemon juice can brighten your skin and make it peel, while turmeric can relieve inflammation and smoothen your skin. If your skin is sensitive, dilute the remedy with some milk or water.
