Some injuries to the joint or arthritis can cause joint pain. Arthritis is an issue which usually affects older people, but is not limited to only them. Overweight people or people who have suffered injuries to the joint are more exposed to the risk of arthritis.

New studies show that the best treatment for arthritis or joint pain is gelatin. Gelatin can reduce the inflammation and pain caused by the most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis. It can also be helpful in cases of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, it can strengthen finger nails, bones and joints, improve the hair quality, and help you recover from stress-related injuries.

How does it work?

Gelatin is a natural substance, a protein from animal products. It contains collagen, a material that makes up cartilage and bones. Integrative medicine specialist Dr. Chris D’Adamo says “Gelatin reduces arthritis pain probably because it’s just ground-up cartilage”. Dr. D’Adamo is a professor at the University of Maryland school of Medicine in Baltimore.

A study from 2000 included 175 patients with osteoarthritis that were given gelatin, calcium and vitamin D supplements. This resulted in very improved mobility and pain levels in the participants. Sean S. McCarthy of the Centre for Clinical and Lifestyle Research in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, says that gelatin supplements can improve the knee function during activities that cause stress on the joint.

Health benefits of gelatin

Rich in protein

Gelatin contains 6 gr. of protein per tablespoon, so it’s a good idea to add it to your diet. It will help the body fully utilize the proteins taken in from food.

Great for bone and joint health

Gelatin is rich in amino acids that prevent degeneration of the cartilage in joints. The anti-inflammatory properties help it reduce inflammation successfully.

Improves digestion

This protein binds to water and eases the movement of food through the digestive tract.

Gelatin can treat food allergies

Gelatin treats food allergies and intolerances because it heals the stomach and digestive tract lining. Leaky gut is often the cause of these issues, so once your digestive tract is repaired, the problems will go away.

Helps the body release toxins

One of the most important amino acids in the gelatin is glycine, which helps the liver get rid of toxins effectively.

Improves the quality of hair, skin and nails

The high keratin contents help gelatin improve the hair quality of hair, skin and nails.

Improves skin elasticity

Regular gelatin consumption will result in better skin quality. It will also stimulate the body to produce more collagen.
