A pilonidal cyst, or sacrococcygeal fistula, is a cyst or abscess near or on the natal cleft of the buttocks that often contains hair and skin debris. It occurs due to extreme consistent pressure on the sacrococcygeal area. The ingrown hair in the cyst causes inflammation to the surrounding tissue and the formation of a cyst. These cysts are common in both sexes, and occur between the ages of 16 and 25.

The main symptoms of pilonidal cyst are lower back pain, fever, redness in the area and tenderness over the lower spine. Drainage of pus can also be noticed from the opening of the skin. The problem is often resolved with surgery, but there are a few natural remedies which can solve the issue. These are the most effective ones:

Chuna, or slaked lime, can dry out the boil and reduce the inflammation. Mix it with some powdered turmeric and apply the mixture on the affected area covering it with a bandage.

Turmeric provides relief from the inflammation caused by the cyst. Add some of this delicious spice in your food to treat the condition and gain other health benefits too. Mix some powdered turmeric with water and form a paste. Apply it three times daily directly on the painful area.

Fenugreek is very helpful in cases of pilonidal cyst, as it relieves the inflammation in the area. Mix half a teaspoon of fenugreek along half a teaspoon of water and apply it on the painful area with a cotton ball previously soaked in the mixture for 3-4 times a day. You can also take fenugreek supplements twice a day.

Apple cider vinegar
ACV is one of the most popular homemade remedies that treats a wide range of diseases. It will relieve the symptoms and swelling caused by the pilonidal cyst. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it on the affected area several times daily. ACV also treats other skin conditions and normalizes the pH levels in the body.

Garlic and Epsom salt
Add a couple of Epsom salt cups in your bath. The solution contains minerals such as magnesium and sulfate that can eliminate toxins from the body. Soak in the Epsom salt bath for at least for an hour each day to effectively eliminate the pilonidal cyst symptoms. The garlic is a powerful antioxidant that will help eliminate the microorganisms that cause the condition.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera contains many properties that fight bacteria, viruses and microorganisms, so it is a great choice for treating pilonidal cysts. Consume half a glass of Aloe Vera juice every day to alleviate the symptoms.

Castor oil
Castor oil successfully reduces the inflammation and stimulates the place to heal. Apply some warm castor oil on the affected area and cover it with a bandage up to three times daily.

Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a powerful antiseptic that can easily deal with the affected skin area. Just apply a drop of it over the affected area and the symptoms will be alleviated soon.

Warm bath
A warm bath can help with the symptoms of pilonidal cyst. It reduces the pain and cleans the skin perfectly. A warm bath can also prevent new formations of pilonidal cysts. Take one every day.

Exercising can relieve the pain and stress caused by the cyst. Exercise every day for at least half an hour, or just go for a walk. Yoga can also help in the treatment of pilonidal cyst.
