Statistical data from the American Academy of Dermatology shows that acne is the most common skin problem in the USA, affecting 40-50 million people. Acne is a common problem of modern society in general, and the big pharmaceutical companies are using this to profit.

Acne treatment is a highly profitable industry. The usual acne treatment products contain a lot of chemicals which are damaging and aggressive, making the products unacceptable for people who are worried about their health. Thankfully, there is a natural solution to the acne problem – a combination of Aloe Vera and coconut oil. These two natural ingredients have proven themselves able to treat acne without any damaging side-effects.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a succulent plant with green spear-shaped leaves that has been widely used for its soothing and healing abilities. Aloe Vera is used all around the world, and it is recommended as a natural remedy for eczema, psoriasis, burns and rashes. Recently, a study was published in the “Journal of Dermatological Treatment” claiming that this plant is very effective as an acne treatment. The study lasted for eight weeks and was performed on 60 individuals with mild to moderate acne issues.

The subjects were treated with a combination of tretinoin cream and Aloe Vera topical gel, or tretionin cream and a placebo. The results showed that the combination of tretinoin cream and Aloe Vera gel was better tolerated and more effective than the other mix for treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. If you’re having acne troubles, apply some Aloe Vera gel on the affected area on a daily basis. This will reduce the swelling, redness and inflammation, and prevent acne outbreaks.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has been frequently praised for its skin-improving properties. The coconut oil is often used as an anti-aging cream, natural sunscreen, lip gel, moisturizer and massage oil. It has shown to be effective in treatment of skin disorders, blisters, pimples, sores, rashes, etc.

The coconut oil relieves any skin condition, including acne issues. A Chinese research from 2009 discovered that lauric acid, a saturated fatty acid found in coconut oil has strong antibacterial properties that make it a better solution for acne than palmitic or oleic acid. Lauric acid is full of liposomes, vesicles that administer nutrients, and has shown that it “fuses with the membranes of P. acnes and releases the carried [lauric acid] directly into the bacterial membranes, thereby killing the bacteria effectively.”

The results of the research were published in the Journal “Biomaterials”. They showed that topical application of coconut oil can help in acne treatment. For best results, you should use raw, cold-pressed coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. The oil will have the scent of coconut, meaning that it has undergone almost no processing.
