Water is the best drink for your body – it’s a gift of nature that supports life on Earth. It contains essential nutrients the body needs, and it’s calorie-free as well. However, large corporations have found a way to spoil it, and sadly, bottled water now contains more harmful ingredients that you’re aware of.

Drinking bottled water has led to numerous adverse side-effects and besides the risks linked to the plastic containers that contain BPA and the detrimental environmental effects, some of the most popular bottled water brands have also been found to contain dangerous chemicals. For example, the Dasani water which is a Coca-Cola product contains potassium chloride and magnesium sulfate, which have negative effects on our health.

Potassium chloride

This powdered substance is white and has no smell, and dissolves in bottled water perfectly. It is commonly used for fertilization and in lethal injections. The usual side-effects of potassium chloride intake are nausea, heartburn, bad aftertaste, abdominal pain and diarrhea. The chemical can especially hurt people suffering from dehydration, kidney damage and Addison’s disease.

Magnesium sulfate

Magnesium sulfate, or Epsom salt as it’s more commonly known, is usually applied topically to treat fungal infections such as athlete’s foot. It is beneficial, but it can also be harmful to pregnant and breastfeeding women, or if you’re trying to get pregnant. According to the FDA, doctors should stop prescribing magnesium sulfate as a method for preventing pregnancy seizures, as it damages the bones of the fetus.

Scientists have recently reviewed 18 studies on the effects of magnesium sulfate in pregnant women who consumed the chemical for 10 weeks, and found that most of the babies were born with birth defects and fractures.

This dangerous compound can also cause dizziness, low blood pressure, sleepiness, arrhythmia, muscle weakness and confusion.
